"The state of a body subjected to the action of opposing forces that attract it."
TENSION
A contemporary circus piece in development that explores the relationship between identity and the boundaries that define us. The performance invites reflection on the process of personal construction—a space where the personal and the social intertwine. Where do we end, and where do imposed limits begin? Which parts of our identity do we choose, and which are unconsciously imposed upon us?
This project emerges from the fusion of circus and visual arts, investigating new ways of creating circus through an unconventional material—40-meter-long elastic latex bands—that transform acrobatic movement and the relationship between body and space.
A large latex wall, constructed from these bands arranged horizontally—an unusual setup for aerial acrobatics—opens new physical and expressive possibilities. Its materiality, elasticity, and color turn it into a medium for artistic exploration, interacting with light through shifting hues and with sound through its vibrations.
This wall/portal symbolizes the tension between inheritance and the possibility of transformation. Part of the set is built on stage, reinforcing the idea that identity is not fixed but a continuous process of construction, collapse, and reconstruction.
The research behind Tensión seeks to discover new forms of expression, new interactions with unconventional materials, and deeper explorations within circus arts.
At its core, Tensión is a deeply personal work that simultaneously acts as a mirror in which anyone can see themselves reflected. It is an invitation to question the boundaries that define us, to challenge the structures that shape us, and to reclaim the power to decide—more consciously—who we want to be.
